Ridge Boys Fencing Wins Somerset County Championship, Girls Finish the 3rd

The Ridge Boys fencing team captured the overall title at the Somerset County Fencing Championships December 17, 2022, Saturday at Bernards High School. They competed in all three weapons against teams from Bernards, Gill St. Bernards, Montgomery, Pingry, Somerville, and Watchung Hills. 

The foil squad of Alex Ligos, Lawrence Han, and Dayaal Singh secured the foil title with a stellar performance. They lost only one 5-point pool bout on the day, going 17/18. The epee squad of  Alex Oveissi, Soham Pillalamarri, Ethan Zhang, and Reid Kokenge also came away with the squad title winning 14/18 pool bouts. The sabre squad of Tadas Vilemaitis, Brandon Wong, and David Elian had a solid outing, battling a strong Bernards squad to come in second place.

The Ridge girls team came away with third place in the overall team competition. The sabre squad of Vivian West, Emerson Rever, and Sohana Damani also finished in third place.

In the afternoon session fencers took to the strips to compete for individual titles. Dayaal Singh (foil) and Reid Kokenge (epee) were both undefeated in the second round, finishing in first place in their respective weapons. Ethan Zheng dropped only one bout to finish second in the epee competition.
